MOMENTUM UNINTERRUPTED


Momentum Uninterrupted presents an audible set of constellations consisting of 14 tracks. In the compilation, Heejin’s previous release CONSISTENCY has been fragmented and reincarnated into fourteen remixes. She gathered the tracks from her peer artists to link them as a group of stars that shed lights on the road less traveled; Amma Ateria, Andrew Yong Hoon Lee, Bonnie Jones, Cold Draft, dj sniff, Endurance, fatalism, Leevisa, Public Speaking, Ryu Hankil, Snake Union, Unknown Kim, Wobbly, and Yeong Die. Each artist presents their own way to explore the unknown and weave lights in the dark with sound. Heejin finds that continuing one’s art practice against all odds is like a series of ceremonies inherited to a family or a culture. What matters in this continuum is not an accuracy or an implicit obedience, but is a sense of persistent duty of oneself to live as an artist. The album addresses fourteen different drives to make oneself to go. It demonstrates the moments when an artist commits one's life in the practice of art as everlasting superstitions.

Looking back at her past itineraries with noise, Heejin revisited one of the letters of support written by the referees for her O-1 petition in 2014. In the letter of Tony Labat, an artist and the former chair of Graduate School of SFAI in 2014, she found the sentence that has become a magic spell for her to continue on her sound practice:


“[…]she is now in a position to follow her momentum uninterrupted[…],”


Sharing her pieces of life with the peer artists, giving a new title to each track, and shuffling the remixes to give its new order means Heejin’s own ritual praying for every artist to move forward together without interference. The constellation linked up by the tracks of 14 artists illuminates the course of time when a word once spoken and written gradually turns into a powerful energy, accelerating the momentum uninterrupted.



Momentum Uninterrupted는 14개 트랙으로 구성된 청음 가능한 별자리들의 앨범입니다. 장희진의 이전 발매작인 CONSISTENCY의 트랙들은 작은 조각이 되어 14개의 리믹스로 환생했습니다. 그녀는 남들이 가지 않은 길에 빛을 비추는 14명의 동료 아티스트의 트랙을 모아 그들을 별들의 그룹으로 연결했습니다. Amma Ateria, Andrew 용훈 Lee, Bonnie Jones, Cold Draft, dj sniff, Endurance, fatalism, 리비자, Public Speaking, 류한길, Snake Union, Wobbly, Unknown Kim, 그리고 영 다이(Yeong Die)는 미지의 세계를 탐색하고, 어둠 속 빛을 소리로 엮는 자신만의 방식을 제시합니다. 10년의 작업 여정에서 희진은 어떤 역경에도 불구하고 예술 활동을 이어가는 것이 마치 가족이나 문화에 계승되는 일련의 의례와 같다는 사실을 깨닫게 됩니다. 이 연속체에서 중요한 것은 의식의 정확도나 암묵적인 순종이 아니라, 예술가로서 살아가야 한다는 자신의 끈질긴 다짐과 책임감입니다. 컴필레이션 앨범은 자신을 움직이게 만드는 14가지의 서로 다른 드라이브를 다루고 있습니다. 이는 한 예술가가 영원한 미신으로서의 창작 활동에 일생을 바치는 순간들을 보여줍니다.

노이즈와 함께한 지난 여정을 되돌아보며 희진은 2014년 자신의 O-1 청원에 대해 심사위원들이 작성한 지지서한 중 하나를 다시 읽어 보았습니다. 예술가이자 전 SFAI 대학원장이었던 토니 라밧(Tony Labat)의 편지에서 그녀는 사운드아트를 계속할 수 있게 도와준 마법의 주문이 된 문장을 발견했습니다:


"[...]그녀는 이제 자신의 추진력을 중단 없이 따라갈 수 있는 위치에 있습니다[...],"


자신의 삶의 조각들을 동료 아티스트들과 공유하고, 각 트랙에 새로운 제목을 부여하기, 리믹스들을 뒤섞어 새로운 순서를 부여하는 것은 세상의 모든 아티스트가 어떠한 간섭 없이 다함께 나아갈 수 있도록 기도하는 희진만의 의식입니다. 그리하여 14명의 아티스트의 트랙들로 연결된 별자리는 한 번 말하고 쓰여진 말들이 점차 강력한 에너지로 자라, 그 기세를 쉼 없이 가속시키는 시간의 흐름을 비춥니다.
